I’m not sure my firm is ready to migrate to Microsoft Vista. How do I know it’s a prudent thing to do?
Vista offers many reasons to migrate from Windows XP: Better search and organization tools, improved security, full or limited access options, document retrieval by word, title or subject, and enhanced system tools for backing up and restoring your computer. Vista also has sophisticated graphics and new multimedia functions too. If you need another reason, after June 30, you will no longer be able to purchase retail copies of XP Pro and after January 31, 2009 PCs will no longer come with XP Pro in them. Microsoft will continue to support XP Pro with hot fixes and major security patches until Apri 14, 2009 but after that date will stop mainstream development for XP Pro and only release important security fixes.
For those who want to become familiar with the new operating system, but not move away from XP setting up a test machine with Vista is easy using
Microsoft’s Virtual PC software. Install Vista Business on a spare computer and interact with it much the same way you would XP Pro. This allows you to experience the new user interface, the security enhancements and the other new features.
Determine whether your PCs are ready for an upgrade to Windows Vista, which edition of Windows Vista meets your needs, and which features of Windows Vista will be able to run on your PCs.
