PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION, BYLAWS AND HOUSE RULES OF PROCEDURE

Proposed amendments to the Constitution, Bylaws and House Rules of Procedure of the American Bar Association summarized below have been duly filed with the Secretary of the Association by the indicated sponsoring members of the Association for consideration by the House of Delegates at the 2015 Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois. Copies of the full text of these proposals will be published in the E-book of resolutions to the House of Delegates and are also available on the ABA’s Website on the House of Delegates Leadership Page at: http://www.americanbar.org/groups/leadership/house_of_delegates/2015-chicago-annual-meeting.html (click on Summary of Resolutions). Notice is hereby given that Edward Haskins Jacobs proposes to amend § 1.2 of the Association’s Constitution to include the following language as one of the purposes of the Association: “to defend the right to life of all innocent human beings, including all those conceived but not yet born.”

Notice is hereby given that Mark I. Schickman (Principal Sponsor), Lauren Rikleen, Kirke Kickingbird, Robert Weiner, Estelle Rogers, Walter White, John Paul Graff, Myles Lynk, Stephen Wermiel, Drucilla Ramey, Barbara Mendel Mayden and Wilson Adam Schooley propose to amend §10.1 of the Association’s Constitution to change the name of the Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities to the Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice.

Notice is hereby given that Barbara J. Howard (Principal Sponsor), Suzanne E. Gilbert, Gretchen C. Bellamy, Dennis J. Drasco, Andrew Demetriou and Paul W. Lee propose to amend § 28.4 of the Association’s Bylaws to permit an Association member who is neither a staff member nor a law student member to be reimbursed from Association funds for travel expenses to attend the Annual Meeting within the budgetary constraints of that reimbursing entity.

Notice is hereby given that Geetha Ravindra (Principal Sponsor), Howard Herman, Nancy Welsh, Dwight Golann, Philip S. Cottone, Lawrence R. Mills, Joan Stearns Johnsen, James J. Alfini, Bruce Meyerson and Margaret M. Huff propose to amend § 30.5 of the Association’s Bylaws to allow associate members to serve on the Council and in the leadership of the Section of Dispute Resolution.

Notice is hereby given that Clyde J. Tate II (Principal Sponsor), Dwain Alexander II, William S. Aramony, Charlotte Cluverius, Lyndsey Olson, Pamela Stevenson and Gregory L. Ulrich propose to amend § 31.7 of the Association’s Bylaws to change the jurisdictional statement of the Standing Committee on Legal Assistance for Military Personnel to clarify the scope of legal matters within the jurisdiction.

Flowers, Hon. James S. Hill, Kay H. Hodge, Tommy Preston, Jr., Beverly J. Quail, Carlos A. Rodriguez-Vidal, Neal R. Sonnett, Palmer Gene Vance II, Robert N. Weiner, H Thomas Wells, Jr. and Hon. James A. Wynn, Jr. propose to amend various sections of the Association’s Constitution and Bylaws regarding the House of Delegates, Nominating Committee, Board of Governors (including redistricting), and Officers.

ABE ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS

The Annual Meeting of Members of the American Bar Endowment will be held in conjunction with the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago on Monday, August 3, 2015, at 8:15 a.m. in the Hyatt Regency Chicago hotel. The purpose of this meeting is: (1) to elect two members to the Board of Directors for a term of five years and (2) to transact such other business that may properly come before the meeting. All members of the American Bar Association are members of the American Bar Endowment.


NOTICE BY THE SECRETARY OF THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION REGARDING MEETING OF THE MEMBERSHIP

This is to notify members of the American Bar Association that the meeting of the membership will be held in conjunction with the Coffee with the Candidates Forum, Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Chicago Hotel, Crystal Ballroom B, Green Level, West Tower, in Chicago, Illinois.


NOTICE BY THE SECRETARY OF THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION REGARDING BOARD OF GOVERNORS NOMINEE VACANCY

Due to the declination of the Board of Governors Nominee from Delaware (District 16) for the 2015-2018 term, the Nominating Committee shall convene at the 2015 Annual Meeting and nominate an eligible member for that position, pursuant to § 9.2(e) of the Constitution. Interested members accredited to the state of Delaware should request nominating petitions from the Office of the Secretary, c/o Leticia D.
