Center studying law and culture moves to NYU

The Forum on Law, Culture and Society has a new home.
This summer the forum—along with its director, Thane Rosenbaum—moved to the New York University School of Law, where it will carry on its tradition of telling the story of the law through movies, novels and other cultural works.
“I am very pleased to welcome Thane’s forum to NYU Law,” said dean Trevor Morrison in a statement. “Our curriculum emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of law. And Thane ‘s programs, with their rich array of people and topics, will amplify that—both for members of our community and for the public.”
Launched in 2006 at Fordham University School of Law, the forum organizes lectures on important legal cases, conversations with public figures prominent in the law, and a popular, legal-themed film festival. Guests over the years have included actress Susan Sarandon, criminal defense attorney Barry Slotnick, former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
As part of the move, Rosenbaum will join the faculty of NYU Law, where he will continue to teach courses on human rights, legal humanities, and the law and literature. He will also continue to write fiction and nonfiction examining justice and morality.
“We wish Thane and the forum the best of luck as they transition to their new home at NYU this fall,” Fordham’s dean, Michael M. Martin, said in a statement. “He has been both a member of the adjunct faculty and the John Whelan distinguished lecturer in law, bringing his knowledge and expertise as a writer of fiction, articles, essays and reviews into the classroom.”
And don’t miss Rosenbaum in action at this year’s ABA Annual Meeting in Boston. He’ll be moderating the ABA Journal-sponsored showcase CLE program “TV Lawyers: What Lawyers Can Learn from Lawyers on TV” on Aug. 10.
