What do you do when you want to highlight your firm’s “deep roster” of talented female lawyers? Tweet it, of course.
This spring San Francisco-based Morrison & Foerster launched @MoFoWomen to show how much effort the firm is devoting to women in the legal field, says Mika Mayer, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based patent lawyer who co-chairs MoFo’s Women’s Initiatives Committee, the Twitter feed’s sponsor. Follow and you’ll be treated to news about the firm’s initiatives related to women and live tweets from events like the firm’s annual summit for in-house female lawyers. At press time, @MoFoWomen had about 100 followers.
Although tweets are authored by marketing professionals, MoFo does have an impressive gender-related history. This year, for example, half of the firm’s new partners are women. MoFo women also head litigation teams and serve in firm management. MoFo was the first law firm to receive a Catalyst Award, which is presented annually to companies demonstrating a commitment to women’s leadership development. Half of the firm’s 18 affinity groups are related to women, including the New York Asian Women Associates and San Francisco Working Moms groups.
Social media, the firm hopes, will be a dynamic space to celebrate these achievements and attract a pipeline of talented women.
Followers of @MoFoWomen include individual lawyers, the Bar Association of San Francisco and WorkingWomen.com.
