Ex-Detroit mayor convicted of racketeering in corruption trial

Mar 11, 2013, 03:30 pm CDT

Kwame Kilpatrick, the disgraced former mayor of Detroit, has been convicted of racketeering.

The racketeering count could mean up to 20 years in prison for Kilpatrick, who was convicted on 23 other charges, according to news reports.

Michigan Live has tallied the guilty verdicts and noted on which charges jurors were hung or voted for acquittal.

Jurors began deliberating on the 30 charges against Kilpatrick, his father Bernard and a friend, Bobby Ferguson, on Feb. 19.

Prosecutors had maintained the once-powerful Democratic mayor oversaw a massive corruption scheme, steering some $83 million in city contracts to Ferguson, according to NBC News.

Kilpatrick has already served jail time, having pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in 2008 for lying about an affair during a civil trial.
