Sunshine State will be new home to about 100 Kaye Scholer employees

Kaye Scholer is scouting for a site in Tallahassee, Fla., that will become home to its back-office operations.

The law firm announced plans on Thursday to locate about 100 workers in Tallahassee, including employees in accounting, document services, graphics, technology, library services, docketing, human resources and marketing. Tallahassee was selected because of lower costs, quality of life, affordable housing, and proximity to the state government and major universities, according to a press release and the Am Law Daily.

Affected employees will receive offers to relocate. Those who don’t accept will get job placement services and severance packages, if they qualify, according to a press release. Most of the affected employees are in the firm’s New York office.

Kaye Scholer is currently looking for office space. The firm plans to build out the facilities, and to relocate and hire its first staff members by this summer.

The Am Law Daily spoke to Kaye Scholer chief operating officer Jeffrey Hunter about the move of the firm's back-office operations. "We think that we can provide timelier and more responsive services to partners and—in turn—their clients by centralizing those services instead of having them scattered across our New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles offices," he said.
