An unidentified man in his late 60s was found dead Monday morning in a parking lot near a Texas courthouse.
Authorities and witnesses said it appears that the man was a defendant in a criminal case at the Bexar County Courthouse who walked out during a break in jury selection and committed suicide, according to the Express-News and WOAL radio.
“My understanding is that this man was the subject of a criminal case,” Police Sgt. Javier Salazar told the station. “It is my understanding that they were impaneling a jury today.”
Witnesses told the Express-News that they saw him kill himself with a shotgun. The weapon apparently had been left in his vehicle, parked in the lot, while he was in the courthouse.
The circumstances of his case have not been disclosed at this time, but the man’s lawyers said he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after serving in the Vietnam War, the newspaper reports.
