Better life after BigLaw beckons, cross-country walker tells laid-off Weil attorneys

Getting laid off from a BigLaw job isn’t pleasant. But it’s not the end of the world either, a former Sidley Austin bankruptcy associate tells compatriots from Weil Gotshal & Manges in a recent blog post.

They’re now on the other side of the fence, where the grass is greener, Tyler Coulson says. That means many opportunities are now open to them–or they could do what he did, and drop out of the daily grind. (In Coulson’s case, that meant giving away his material possessions and hiking across the country with his dog, Mabel.)

“It seems lawyers take themselves too seriously sometimes,” Coulson tells the Am Law Daily, which reports that he is back at work, with a law school classmate, at a small firm in Illinois. “Losing a job is very serious. It’s not like I’m making fun of these people, but it could be worse.”
