Fertilizer explosion caused some $100M in damage; plant had ‘pathetic’ $1M in insurance

Inadequate capitalization = pierce the corporate veil!

For goodness sakes, if a fertilizer plant doesn't have enough of the right insurance to protect everyone within the county against any chance of a horrific explosion happening, then we right and true Americans must conclude that we absolutely must mandate full insurance coverage for all our private businesses so that any future possible economic loss is completely paid for. Oh wait..... we are mandating full insurance coverage with our so-called health care reform, and look what that is doing to our private industry and economy.

There is no such acceptable thing as an uninsured or underinsured accident any more. All our risks must be covered by insurance, or else we are not a decent, civilized or advanced people. Whatever cash that would have been dedicated to running the business or employing people must be foregone to make all our insurance coverage as solid as Kevlar.

Risk is a thing to be avoided like the plague, and our government is here to legislate and regulate us into the safest, most expensive and least productive country in the world. Our attorneys are here to back our government up, with no mercy on the chumps who prefer to trade off the uncertainty of an accident against the certainty of an unprofitable business.

@2 - "Risk is a thing to be avoided like the plague..."

I think the proper position is that risk is to be borne by the one that creates it. Otherwise, the cost of the business is externalized on others, and the market does not function as it should.

Is there such a thing as a non-hysterical conservative anymore?

#3 -- No. There are not. The hysterical conservatives damned them all as RINOs and kicked them out of the club.

A short-term gambit that will hit them pretty hard once the hangover to the fanatical right-wing extremist orgy that was the past decade hits.

@ 1: Like most legal solutions, easier said than done.

May I take a moment to lambast the writer on his use of the word "some" in the title? When did this become an acceptable synonym for "about" or "approximately" ? This is driving me crazy - and everyone is doing it! For pity's sake, people, broaden your vocabularies and get a Thesaurus!
