I just read your article - as the company I work for is looking into social media monitoring mainly for case work rather than advertising. I should point out we are UK based not US based.
We have so far looked into Hootsuite.com, TweetDeck.com, Buffer, Buzzbundle.co.uk - they all have pros and cons
But re the comment “I strongly doubt we will see a software product that can monitor every post on every conceivable social network, discussion board, video upload site or other Web application,” says Michael Fluhr, - Buzzbundle does monitor all those i.e - facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, google+, and also YouTube - I havent anything else that is affordable, that covers those yet.
