Real change is here—whether you’re seeing it in your own practice area or not

Just today, I got eighty-five cents back at the video store, after I handed the clerk a fiver for the DVDs I was renting.  It was three quarters and a dime, so there were no pennies to add to the Sandwich for Liz Jar.

A few weeks ago, one off the secretaries asked me to get her a candy bar while I was getting snacks from a vending machine.  I put in a dollar and got the candy bar and two dimes back.  Then when I got back up to the office, I gave her the candy bar and the two dimes and she gave me a dollar.  So, we not only saw real change, but also a veritable pair-o’-dimes shift that day.

“My partner Nicole Auerbach continues to draw raves when she explains how the billable hour hurts women disproportionately.”  Well, traditional legal education hurts students with families disproportionally.  Nonetheless, we don’t see a massive move away from it.
