10 Job Interview Tips for Law Students

For law students looking for work in the midst of a financial crisis, following the rules is more important than it's been in years.
Dress conservatively, sit up straight and smile, advises shareholder Martin Press of Gunster Yoakley & Stewart, in Florida. And focus on what you can do for the law firm, not what the law firm can do for you, he writes in a Daily Business Review list of 10 job-interview tips reprinted by New York Lawyer (reg. req.).
Flexibility can also be key. A law professor of his graduated from New York University during the Great Depression of the 1930s, Press recounts. He found found a first job with an accountant and lawyer who ran a fruit-and-vegetable stand on the street in the morning and prepared tax returns in the afternoon.
Even though it's a tough job market right now, there are still opportunities for those who follow up and stay positive, he writes. "Those who reach out to grasp the opportunities in a well-thought-out, methodical way will succeed.
