Thousands of lawyers have volunteered to man 25 call centers throughout the country as voting gets under way Nov. 4.

Most of the call centers—which field questions from frustrated voters—are overseen by law firms, including Kirkland & Ellis, Davis Polk, Simpson Thacher, Proskauer Rose, White & Case, and Sullivan & Cromwell, American Lawyer reports.

So far, some 10,000 legal volunteers have agreed to help with the centers, which are already taking in 1,000 calls a day. The number (and site) is 1-866-OUR-VOTE.

"There's a lot of broad-based enthusiasm for this effort," say Simpson Thacher partner Victoria Bjorklund, who will head up the call center at her firm. "It's an exciting way for lawyers to get involved in the election process."

National Campaign for Fair Elections, a program of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, will continue to sign up volunteers through the end of the month.
