Six law schools had first-year attrition rates above 30 percent for the 2005 academic year.
First on the list is Whittier, with a first-year attrition rate of 51.5 percent, TaxProf Blog reports, citing a list published at LawSchoolNumbers.com. The percentages include students who flunked out, dropped out voluntarily or transferred.
Hulett "Bucky" Askew, the ABA consultant on legal education, says the list is based on aggregate attrition rates for 2005. The figures are taken from 2006 law school questionnaires submitted to the association’s Section on Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar.
The section will soon publish new data from the 2006 academic year. Whittier’s attrition rate in the new 2006 data is about 31 percent.
Here are the law schools with first-year attrition rates above 30 percent in 2005:
- Whittier (51.5%)
- Touro (37.4%)
- Golden Gate (36.9%)
- Western State (32.6%)
- Jones (32.3%)
- Widener (30.5%)

i am not suprised ta these stats bc i went to Touro and the first day of class our vice-dean, told us that we were all probably not good enough to get into law school anyway, etc.... it was a hurtful thing to say and some of the faculty has a pretty bad attitude so students do not like to stay there.

Schools like Touro are ripping people off. Why not just admit people who are qualified, instead of admitting people who are clearly unqualified and then dumping them on the curb after milking them out of an overpriced 1st year tuition. Shame on them!

Wise people, those who are spared. Law schools accept 80% more students than they need. Wise folks.
