Memphis U.S. District Court Judge Bernice Donald, the ABA’s Secretary, has been named the 2008 Honoree of the Year by the National Association of Women Judges.

A former president of the NAWJ, Donald has “worked tirelessly to advance women and minorities in the legal profession,” according to the group. She chaired the ABA Commission on Opportunities for Minorities in the Legal Profession, and has played leading roles in a host of other bar associations.

In August, she was a recipient of the inaugural ABA Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section Liberty Achievement Award. Donald also serves as a member of the ABA Journal Board of Editors.

The award will be presented at the NAWJ Annual Conference on Oct. 18.
