Anna Nicole’s Mom Files Against Lawyer, Website

The mother of the late Anna Nicole Smith has filed defamation suit in Texas against Smith's former lawyer and several media organizations, including the popular celebrity gossip site TMZ.com.

Virgie Arthur maintains that Smith's lawyer and companion, Howard K. Stern, and media outlets, spread a false story that she was the mother of her stepbrother's child, Reuters reports.

Quoting from the suit, Reuters says Arthur claims the defendants' goal was, "simple and straightforward—to 'destroy' anyone that was opposed to Howard K. Stern or his interest."

Specifically, Arthur takes issue with a TMZ.com story entitled, "Virgie Has Son With Step-Brother."

The defamation claims come after a relative lull after the sensational February 2007 accidental overdose death of Smith. Arthur, Stern and photographer Larry Birkhead were embroiled in nasty legal battle after Smith's death, fighting about everything from what to do with Smith's remains to custody of her infant daughter.
