Annual Meeting 2007

We’re planning wall-to-wall coverage of the largest meeting of lawyers on the planet – the ABA’s Annual Meeting in San Francisco, Aug. 8 through 14. More than 7,000 lawyers will descend on the City by the Bay for a solid week of programs, seminars and continuing legal education events. If you want to be one of them, it’s not too late to register.
We’ll be filing updates – most serious, some not so – throughout every day. Look for photos and video reports, along with our standard words-on-screen.
Our coverage will culminate with reports every few minutes from the floor of the 546-member policy-making ABA House of Delegates on Aug. 13 and 14. Composed of representatives from all 50 state bar associations, major local bars and ABA sections, the House is the closest thing the U.S. legal profession has to a representative body.
Among the resolutions the House will debate this year are measures that call for:
-- Severe limits on public access to criminal case files if the defendant is found not guilty.
-- Fewer opportunities for the federal government to win dismissal of civil cases by invoking the state secrets privilege.
-- Creation by Congress of a bipartisan commission to determine who is to blame for the government's delayed response to Hurricane Katrina.
