After 17 years in practice at Perkins Coie, partner David Symes is leaving the big-name Pacific Northwest law firm to open a new Portland, Ore., office for fast-growing Ogletree Deakins Nash Smoak & Stewart.

The Portland office is the 500-attorney national labor and employment boutique’s 40th, as well as its fifth new office this year, reports the National Law Journal in an article reprinted in New York Lawyer (reg. req.).

Symes, who will now serve as managing partner in Portland for Ogletree, says he expects the firm’s newest office to grow “with deliberate speed” to as many as 10 lawyers in a year and a half.

The four other new offices for Ogletree this year are in Cosa Mesa, Calif.; Denver; Las Vegas; and Minneapolis.

An Ogletree press release (PDF) provides additional details.
