Developing: A 17-year Texas judge who formerly worked as an assistant Harris County attorney has been indicted on a charge of misdemeanor official oppression.

Details of the charges against Judge Don Jackson of Harris County Criminal Court-at-Law are sketchy, reports the Houston Chronicle, and do not explain the nature of the judge's claimed misconduct.

Because Jackson hears criminal misdemeanor cases in his $132,500-a-year elected post, his own case will be handled in the county's felony court system. If convicted, he faces a maximum one-year jail sentence and a $4,000 fine.
