19-Year Child-Support Saga Now Puts Ex-Husband in Jail Over $165K Claim

Arrested yesterday in a felony case for allegedly failing to pay $165,000 in child support, a Florida man is now jailed without bond.
David William Earley's ex-wife Sharon has been pursuing him for child support for 19 years, reports the Tampa Tribune.
However, she isn't necessarily expected even now to see much, if anything, of the money the allegedly unemployed tile layer owes her, according to WFLA.
Earley's current wife says the child support hasn't been paid because there isn't any money to pay it with. His ex-wife says she and the judges he's appeared in front of have heard all the excuses in the book, which Earley, who is now 42, offers with "a nice smile and a very honest look," the station recounts.
"After learning of the case, state Sen. Mike Fasano drafted a bill that would require fathers who fail to pay child support to do a week of work detail wearing a shirt, overalls or vest that reads 'Deadbeat Dad,' " reports Tampa Bay Online.

I guess no women are ordered to pay child support in Florida, let alone having any women who are behind in their support payments. It will surely look funny to have a woman wearing a shirt or overalls that says “deadbeat dad”.

If there’s no money there’s no money. Take a % of his wages, withhold his tax refund, however I thought debtors prisons went out of style in 1833.

No…at least here in Virginia, debtors prisons are alive and well…in my local, regional jail, the number one class of “offender” are those in jail on civil contempt charges relating to child support.

Hopefully the court used this as a maneuver to get this man in the “system”. Don’t send the man to jail; send him back home to he can keep working and garnish his wages. His child and the mother deserves it. The clown avoided supporting his own child for 19 years.
Of course there are women who don’t pay child support in Florida as well as throughout the US. But how many men claim to be a “single parent”.

Make darn sure you make those to say Deadbeat Mom too. There are more Deadbeat Moms than there are Deadbeat Dads.

Law makers should make certain child support is used to support the child & not the mother of that child. Fathers are sick & tired of not being able to provide a home for themselves because they are still taking care of the ex. I’m all for reasonable child support but come on 165K. Women need to get off their butts & provide for the children they have. Having a child does not entitle them to be taken care of by a man the rest of their lives.
