1L Attrition Topped 30 Percent at Six Law Schools
Six law schools had first-year attrition rates above 30 percent for the 2005 academic year.
First on the list is Whittier, with a first-year attrition rate of 51.5 percent, TaxProf Blog reports, citing a list published at LawSchoolNumbers.com. The percentages include students who flunked out, dropped out voluntarily or transferred.
Hulett “Bucky” Askew, the ABA consultant on legal education, says the list is based on aggregate attrition rates for 2005. The figures are taken from 2006 law school questionnaires submitted to the association’s Section on Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar.
The section will soon publish new data from the 2006 academic year. Whittier’s attrition rate in the new 2006 data is about 31 percent.

- Whittier (51.5%)
- Touro (37.4%)
- Golden Gate (36.9%)
- Western State (32.6%)
- Jones (32.3%)
- Widener (30.5%)
