2007 Law Grad Takes Unusual Law Enforcement Job

Last Thursday, Jim Horton was sworn in as a member of the New York state bar.

Two days earlier, the 2007 Albany Law School graduate was also sworn in as a New York state trooper, reports the Albany Times Union.

Although some troopers earn law degrees, which can be very useful to them on the job, it is unusual for someone who is already a law school graduate to become an officer, says Lt. Glenn Miner, a state police spokesman.

Horton follows in the footsteps of his father, who was a senior investigator heading the Major Crimes Unit of Troop G in Loudonville before he retired, and is now carrying his dad's badge.
