Two registered sex offenders in California were wearing GPS monitoring devices when they raped and killed three women last year in Orange County, authorities say.

Charged with special circumstances murder in the slayings, as well as the death last month of another Orange County woman, are Franc Cano, 27, and Steven Dean Gordon, 45, according to the Associated Press, KABC and the Los Angeles Times (sub. req.).

The two also face rape charges.

Both have prior convictions for lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14.

An investigation is ongoing.
