Two practice leaders at Irell and Manella are forming a new litigation boutique with about 30 more attorneys from their now-former firm.

John Hueston and Brian Hennigan said they themselves were surprised that 25 associates, as of Tuesday, had agreed to join the new firm they and several other Irell partners announced this week, reports the Recorder (sub. req.).

“We had kind of an embarrassment of riches. We had no idea that so many of our colleagues would be willing to follow in our ranks,” said Hueston of the influx of associates. “We had a lot of unsolicited requests to join.”

Their group represents about one-sixth of the attorney roster at their now-former Southern California law firm.

A law firm press release provides more details about Hueston Hennigan and its attorneys, who expect to focus their practice on high-end civil litigation and white-collar criminal defense work.
