A five-lawyer municipal-law practice group has exited Ice Miller for the Columbus, Ohio, office of Frost Brown Todd.

It includes Stephen J. Smith Sr. and Philip Hartmann, who formerly co-chaired the public law department of Ice Miller.

“We really like the fact these attorneys are so well-known in the Columbus legal and business communities,” chairman John Crockett told Columbus Business First. “That’s a great benefit to us.”

Frost Brown has about 470 attorneys in nine offices in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia and Tennessee. The Columbus office has almost 30 attorneys.

Jim Davidson, who serves as Ice Miller’s deputy managing partner, notes that there are still eight lawyers in its public law group and tells the business publication that the firm wishes its former attorneys well.

“Their departure was carefully managed to allow us to move away from law director work and concentrate on providing more sophisticated legal advice to public clients and private clients who interact with state and local governments,” he said.

A Frost Brown press release provides further details.
