The FBI has announced 389 arrests for child prostitution made over a five-day period in 16 cities in 10 states and the District of Columbia, in the latest round in a five-year enforcement effort it terms Operation Cross Country.

“Investigations uncovered schemes ranging from prostituting children at truck stops to promoting their services on the Internet,” reports Reuters. In addition to making the arrests, the operation also reportedly rescued 21 children.

In Sacramento, one of the 16 cities targeted, federal agents arrested two adult male pimps and took four girls into protective custody, News 10, a local ABC affiliate reports.

“All four girls are from Sacramento and were between 12 and 16 years old,” the station reports on its website.”The 12-year-old was prostituting on the street, while the other three were being pimped online.”
