Six lawyers from DLA Piper, including the head of the litigation practice for the Philadelphia office, are leaving to join Hangley Aronchick Segal & Pudlin, a midsize local law partnership known for its trial and appellate work.

“I’ve had a great experience at DLA, and it is a marvelous firm with marvelous people,” says partner Ronald Schiller, who is leaving DLA Piper after 18 years, in a written statement. “But I think any litigator would find it difficult to turn down the opportunity to work with the trial and appellate stars at Hangley Aronchick, lawyers I’ve known and admired for years.”

The move by Schiller, two counsel and three associates will bring the Hangley firm’s attorney count from 50 to 56, reports the Legal Intelligencer in an article reprinted in New York Lawyer (reg. req.). Daniel Layden and Nicole Rosenblum, who served as counsel at DLA Piper, will be joining the Hangley firm as partners; the three associates will continue in that role.

James Brogan, who is the managing partner for the megafirm’s Philadelphia office, described Schiller as a marvelous lawyer who has many friends there and says he wishes Schiller nothing but the best, the legal publication reports.
