A six-partner real estate group has left Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker and joined Haynes and Boone in what their new firm trumpets in a press release today as a major expansion of its East Coast real estate practice.

The new Haynes and Boone partners are: Kenneth Friedman, Robert Grados, Steven Koch and Walter Schleimer, who focus on real estate finance matters, and Lawrence Mittman and Carolyn Sullivan, who focus on on real estate restructuring. Koch formerly served as the administrative head of the real estate practice group, notes Above the Law.

“This is an impressive group of highly respected lawyers who have long been go-to counselors for some of the largest institutions in New York,” says Terry Conner, managing partner of Haynes and Boone, in the release. “Their arrival gives us an even stronger national presence on the East Coast. They bring with them practices that have been consistently robust, even in economic downturns.”

The firm, which has more than 500 lawyers in offices in Texas, New York, California, Washington, D.C., Mexico City and Moscow, also has recently added to its attorney roster in its bankruptcy, finance, securities regulation and white collar crime practice groups. It expects to have at least 100 lawyers working in its New York office within the next several years; at present, there are about 35 lawyers in the New York office, according to the firm’s website.
