Headed by the former managing partner of the now-closed Berwyn, Pa., office of Drinker Biddle & Reath, seven attorneys from the law firm have formed a new environmental boutique.

It will be known as Brooman Buzzell & Garber, reports the Legal Intelligencer in an article reprinted in New York Lawyer (reg. req.).

David Brooman, who led a group of 23 environmental lawyers to Drinker Biddle in 1995 from now-shuttered Cohen Shapiro Polisher Shiekman & Cohen, said he was sorry to leave the firm but wanted to continue practicing in suburban Philadelphia with young lawyers whose opportunities likely would have been more limited if they had stayed at Drinker Biddle.

He anticipates there will be no shortage of environmental work in the foreseeable future, and both he and Drinker Biddle Chairman Alfred Putnam Jr. said the split was amicable even though the lawyers in Brooman’s group took some matters with them and the two firms plan to collaborate.

“Candidly, I am very limited,” Brooman tells the legal publication. “Our firm is a boutique, and we have always needed top real estate, corporate and tax talent. We’ll look to Drinker Biddle & Reath for that.”
