The deal for Chicago real estate billionaire and former lawyer, Samuel Zell, to take media company Tribune Co. private for $8.2 billion has spawned work for at least 87 lawyers.

The New York Law Journal [Registration Required] has a complete list of lawyer names, but here are the firms that were involved:

  • Tribune was represented by lawyers at Sidley Austin and Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. The special committee of the Tribune’s board of directors was counseled by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. McDermott Will & Emery advised Tribune on ESOP matters.
  • K&L Gates advised the ESOP trustee.
  • Cahill Gordon & Reindel represented Merrill Lynch, Citigroup and JPMorgan, which are financial advisors to Tribune.
  • Mr. Zell was advised by Jenner & Block; Morgan, Lewis & Bockius; Arnold & Porter; and Dow Lohnes.
