Duane Morris

A nine-lawyer group, including five Miami partners, is exiting Carlton Fields Jorden Burt to join Duane Morris.

It includes Robert Zinn, a tax partner who formerly served as president and chief operating shareholder at Akerman during a 17-year stint there, the Daily Business Review (sub. req.) reports.

Zinn’s leadership skills were critical in arranging the group’s departure to Duane Morris, said Harvey Gurland, the managing partner of the firm’s Miami and Boca Raton offices.

“Robert was instrumental in having this come about from his end,” Gurland told the legal publication. “His involvement in this is what led to having other lawyers become interested in Duane Morris. We thought this would be a great fit for us. They have synergies among themselves.”

Zinn said Duane Morris was attractive to the group because it offered a bigger platform.

“They have more offices, both domestically and internationally,” he said. “The offer was just too compelling to pass up.”

The other new partners from Carlton Fields focus their practices on tax, real estate and wealth-planning matters.
