Onetime teen heartthrob David Cassidy, perhaps best-known for his role on the 1970s Partridge Family sitcom, was set to take a plea deal Wednesday in a driving-while-intoxicated case in upstate New York.

Because Cassidy lives in Florida, the Schodack Town Court had agreed to let his lawyer enter a plea without the singer and actor being present. However, a tweet by the New York Racing Association derailed that plan, according to the Associated Press and the Daily Gazette (sub. req.).

It turns out, Cassidy was spending the day at the Saratoga race track, some 40 miles away. Officials were “disturbed” to learn he was so close at hand, a prosecutor told the Schenectady newspaper, when his lawyer had said he wasn’t able to be present for the hearing.
