A Nixon Peabody partner who was once named “dealmaker of the year” is leaving Nixon Peabody along with two other partners to join DLA Piper.

The partner, Peter White, has worked on stadium financing for several professional sports teams, including the New York Yankees and the Mets, the National Law Journal reports. He was American’s Lawyer’s 2007 “dealmaker of the year.”

Joining White in the move are public finance partners Mark Whitaker and Katherine Baynes.

Roger Meltzer, global chairman of DLA Piper’s corporate and finance practice, told the National Law Journal that the acquisition will boost the firm’s sports and entertainment practice. Asked if other Nixon Peabody lawyers will follow the trio, Meltzer said the immediate focus is to integrate the three lawyers into DLA Piper’s practice.
