An ABA committee is considering a proposed change in the way law schools are required to report admissions data and entering class credentials.

Under the current regime, law schools are required to report 25th, 50th and 75th percentile LSAT scores and undergraduate grade point averages for those who apply, receive offers of admission and matriculate.

Under the proposed change, schools would be required to report LSAT scores and undergraduate GPAs in a grid format according to various ranges.

The proposed changes, which will be taken up next month by the Section of Legal Education and Admission to the Bar’s Data Policy and Collection Committee, were posted (PDF) for notice and comment Thursday on the section’s web site.

The committee says the more detailed reporting grid may provide more useful information about admissions and the composition of the entering class to applicants and the section’s Accreditation Committee without significantly increasing the current reporting burden on schools.

Any changes in the reporting requirements, which must be approved by the section’s governing council, would take effect with the 2016 annual questionnaire and the 2016 annual information reports.
