ABA President H. Thomas Wells, Jr. has launched a blog that goes behind the scenes in the peripatetic life of the leader of the world’s largest voluntary professional membership organization.

The blog describes the events Wells attends on behalf of the ABA across the country and around the world, the people he meets and the issues facing the legal profession. The blog went public today, but he began keeping the diary during his year as president-elect.

Wells, a partner and founding member at Maynard, Cooper & Gale, P.C., in Birmingham, Ala., has been on the road 161 days since August 2007. His one-year term as president of the 400,000-member ABA ends in August 2009.

Wells said he conceived of the blog as a way to “connect with our younger members, both lawyers and law students (and both of my children are young lawyers).”

It also serves a purpose for at least one older lawyer—him. “It gives me a way to remember all that I have a chance to do as president. More than one past ABA president told me that after the year was over, there was so much going on that they had trouble remembering it all,” he said.
