A subsidiary of airline giant Boeing Co. has been sued by the American Civil Liberties Union for allegedly aiding “extraordinary rendition” efforts by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.

The suit, which the ACLU says it is filing today in federal court in California, claims Jeppesen Dataplan Inc. provided transportation for a secret CIA program in which three terrorism suspects were removed from the U.S. and tortured elsewhere, reports AP. The suit seeks redress under the Alien Tort Statute, which permits foreign nationals to bring suit here for alleged violations of the law of nations or a U.S. treaty.

“American corporations should not be profiting from a CIA rendition program that is unlawful and contrary to core American values,” says Anthony D. Romero, the ACLU’s executive director. “Corporations that choose to participate in such activity can and should be held legally accountable.”

Calls made to Chicago-based Boeing and Englewood, Colo.-based Jepperson by AP were not immediately returned.
