After 16 Years on Lam, Mob Boss Bulger Nabbed in Hours By TV, Twitter Blast of Girlfriend's Photo
For 16 years, Boston mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger’s fugitive status, after he escaped with help from a corrupt FBI agent, has been an embarrassment to the federal government.
But the FBI finally got its man within hours of blasting his girlfriend’s photo in television ads and on Twitter, reports the Washington Post. He had been on the 10 Most Wanted list.
Although Los Angeles, not far from where the couple reportedly was found in Santa Monica, was not among 14 cities targeted in the campaign, a tipster nonetheless saw the photo.
Now that he has been captured, Bulger could launch a new wave of investigations of law enforcement officers if he is willing to accept a plea deal, predicts Salon.
