Darrell Payne has no background in athletics administration.

But the 20-year Cincinnati legal practitioner was a college basketball star player and has worked as a sports agent, the Town Talk reported.

And also to thank for his new appointment as the athletics director at Louisiana College are his personal qualities.

“Louisiana College is blessed to have as our athletic director a man of faith, character and leadership to head all of our athletic programs,” said the college’s president, Joe Aguillard. “He is a profound athlete and scholar and will integrate athletics, academics and faith through his position. After an extensive search I believe we have found the man who, through his Christ-first attitude and God-given skill, can lead our athletics department for years to come.”

In addition to overseeing all college athletics, Payne will also head the campus security and ROTC programs.
