An international law firm known as a lobbying powerhouse is launching a new multidisciplinary business unit focused on advising companies that want to do business in Cuba.

Headed by Democratic lobbyist Scott David Parven, the new cross-practice, multi-office initiative was announced Thursday by Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.

The move follows the recent easing of Cuba travel and trade restrictions by the White House.

“Given the president’s bold actions on Cuba, we’re hearing a lot of excitement … from our clients,” Parven told the Washington Post (reg. req.).

“They are very excited and progressive about this, seeing it as a tremendous business opportunity,” he continued. “They’re seeing the long game. Companies want to make sure they’re doing everything right to enter the market the right way and establishing the right reputation.”
