Ala. Judge Seals Court File in High-Profile Capital Murder Case of Amy Bishop
The high profile capital murder case of a former University of Alabama biology professor accused of gunning down colleagues at a faculty meeting will be conducted largely in secret, at least until trial.
In addition to a March gag order preventing the parties from commenting on the case, a state-court judge has now the court file, reports the Huntsville Times.
“The defense filed a motion to seal the records from the general public, and the judge granted that motion,” defense attorney Roy Miller told the newspaper. “There are at least 77 motions that have been filed, of all kinds and nature, and we wanted to prevent a general perusal through the motions.”
Also under consideration by Circuit Court Judge Alan Mann is a motion to prevent the public from attending pretrial hearings, the newspaper says.
