Almost-Grand Champion Owner Has Cow Over Competition Counterclaim
A youth whose grand champion steer and goat lost their competition titles thinks the livestock association countersuit against him is, well, a lot of bull.
The Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo pulled the 2004 title from the steer because of an anti-inflammatory medication administered for a rash and from the goat because of something in its feed, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Andrew Pier sued the association that runs the show, contending it banned the anti-inflammatory after he was assured by a show consultant that it was not against the rules, the story says. Pier wants $68,000 he would have gotten for the auction of his steer and $2,500 he would have gotten for the goat.
The counterclaim says the show was deprived of a 7 percent take of auction proceeds because of Pier’s actions. The action appears to have gotten Pier’s goat.
“I was very surprised and not very happy,” he told the newspaper.
