Alston & Bird has hired a developer to explore the potential construction of a new office building in which it would be the flagship tenant.

The law firm, which at least as of last year was looking to downsize from its current 420,000-square-foot headquarters in Atlanta to 300,000 to 350,000 square feet of office space, has retained Daniel Corp. to look into the project, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Because Alston & Bird needs a lot of space, the firm’s options will be limited, as far as existing offices are concerned, when its lease expires in 2013, says senior vice president Steve Baile of Daniel Corp.
