Amanda Knox vows to fight guilty verdict in Italian murder case, says it 'hit me like a train'
Amanda Knox said the latest guilty verdict in an Italian murder trial over the 2007 slaying of her roommate there, while both women were foreign exchange students, “hit me like a train.”
In an exclusive interview Friday with Good Morning America, the Seattle resident said she watched in disbelief as the verdict was announced online on an Italian television station and will not willingly go back to Italy to serve the more than 28-year prison term to which she was sentenced.
“I’m going to fight this to the very end. It’s not right and it’s not fair,” she said.
However, an appeal is expected, and it likely will be some time before the case is finalized.
Knox also said she feels for the family of the slain woman, Meredith Kercher of Great Britain, and has mailed them a letter, via her lawyer.
“I just want them to know that I really understand that this is incredibly difficult, that they’ve also been on this never ending thing and when the case has been messed up so much, like a verdict is no longer consolation for them,” she said.
