The top five richest law grads in America didn’t make their billions from law practice.

A video by Bloomberg Law reveals the top five lawyer billionaires on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. All of them went into business after law school. The top three are:

1) S. Robson “Rob” Walton, chairman of Wal-Mart. He practiced law for a short time before before joining the family business. Walton is ranked the 12th richest person in the world, the only U.S. lawyer in the top 100. His estimated net worth is $26.4 billion.

2) Richard Kinder, CEO of Kinder Morgan Energy Partners. Kinder practiced law in Houston before joining Enron. His estimated net worth is $8.7 billion.

3) Richard LeFrak, who joined his family’s real estate business after law school. His estimated net worth is $6 billion.

A post by Above the Law inspired Bloomberg Law to create its wealthiest lawyers list. The richest practicing lawyer in America is Houston litigator Joe Jamail.
