In a sweeping review of the top 25 topics and trends of the decade that have impacted the legal profession, the National Law Journal puts the war on terror and its test of the limits of the law at the top of the list.

In second place is the roller-coaster ride for associates, concerning not only pay but the availability of jobs, that wildly fluctuating economic conditions over this period have created. And next on the NLJ list is the accounting scandals that have flooded the courts. In fourth place is the effect that Internet blogs and social networking sites have had on attorneys and the way they work.

Although legal news has seldom been more interesting, change has come at a considerable cost to those adversely affected by the turmoil that the decade has wreaked on what was once considered a stable, staid profession, the article notes. It offers best wishes that future developments, even if they remain just as interesting, will represent positive change.
