Another Atlanta-based law firm has jumped aboard the associate-salary-increase bandwagon.

Kilpatrick Stockton has agreed to raise first-year pay to $145,000 as of Jan. 1, 2008, in accord with the latest wave of salary increases announced by other big Atlanta firms beginning last month, according to the Fulton County Daily Report. The firm will pay $160,000 to first-years in New York City and Washington, D.C.

Alston & Bird launched the Atlanta salary move on Aug. 1, and was soon followed by King & Spalding and several other firms. However, Hunton & Williams, which is based in Richmond, Va., but has a significant Atlanta presence, went to $145,000 in February. At that point, most of the city’s big firms went from $115,000 to $130,000, the article states.

Under the Alston & Bird and Hunton & Williams pay plans, seventh-year associates reportedly are paid $190,000. However, not all of the other firms have announced pay increases for more senior associates at the same level.

At Kilpatrick, salaries will go up for higher-level associates, but specific amounts haven’t yet been decided upon, says Diane L. Prucino, a co-managing partner. “We’re raising them all the way up the scale … but it has not been finalized yet.”
