Any Supreme Court justices considering retirement should not delay, Grassley says

U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has a message for any Supreme Court justices considering retirement—don’t wait.
“I just hope that if there is going to be a nominee, I hope it’s now or within two or three weeks, because we’ve got to get this done before the election,” the Republican from Iowa said in an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. “So my message to any one of the nine Supreme Court justices, if you’re thinking about quitting this year, do it yesterday.”

The 84-year-old Grassley said it usually takes 50 to 70 days between a Supreme Court nomination and a Judiciary Committee hearing, then another two weeks before the nomination goes to the full Senate.
Most retirement rumors have centered on Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, who is 81 years old. He has been on the court for 30 years.
