Managers of a Florida apartment complex quickly backed down following controversy about a lease addendum. According to the addendum, residents could be fined $10,000 for critical social media comments.

A Windermere Cay representative said the complex would not enforce the Social Media Addendum, which had been developed by a former owner, according to the Law & Disorder blog of Ars Technica.and the South Florida Orlando Sentinel.

“This addendum was put in place by a previous general partner for the community following a series of false reviews,” said the building’s manager in an email to the Raw Story “The current general partner and property management do not support the continued use of this addendum and have voided it for all residents.”
