Drivers eager for information on red-light cameras, speed traps and even drunken driving checkpoints can choose from a variety of apps to help them.

Raising particular concern are apps that issue warnings about DUI checkpoints that have been reported by other drivers, USA Today reports. Now Research in Motion has responded by removing checkpoint-warning apps from its online BlackBerry store, according to The BLT: The Blog of Legal Times and CNet News.

A group of four Democratic senators had written a letter to RIM and two other smartphone makers asking them to block the free checkpoint-evading apps.
