Labor report finds decline in legal industry jobs

The legal industry lost 1,500 jobs in April, according to data released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The employment level is at its lowest since August 2015, the Bloomberg BNA’ Big Law Business blog reports. Additionally, the 1,200 jobs that the bureau said were added in March 2016 have been revised to 900.The losses make a total of 1,122,500 million people working in the legal industry, according to the data. The category includes attorneys, paralegals and legal secretaries.

Overall, U.S. unemployment remains at 5 percent. Professional and business services, health care and financial services jobs had growth in April.
